NEWSLETTER January 2018
I’ll start by saying, on behalf of the Committee and Officers, we hope you have had a very happy festive season and wish you and your families, a very happy, healthy and prosperous New year.
My apologies for not being in contact with you all for a while. My father passed away just before Christmas so it has been difficult for me to focus my attention on the club
I was recently contacted by Martin Kenrick who informed me his father David Kenrick had passed away. David was a true gentleman and would often fish Healey Dell with his son Martin. David was a good fisherman and I always enjoyed talking to him down at the Dell, he would also attend working parties and at the last one he came to he frayed some ropes for the fish to lay eggs on which turned out to be very successful. I am sure I speak for us all when I say David will be sadly missed.
The Subscription meeting has now been arranged for Monday 26th of February at 7pm . The Meeting will be at the Alpine Gastof on Whitworth road. Please bring your permit to be signed and he correct change if you can. The gate number for Syke will change after the meeting but Barry will write the new number in your membership card. The new number must not be given to any non members.
The farmer now has some sheep in the field at Syke so please make sure you close all gates.
With my father passing away I have not been able to do as many cormorant patrols as I used to do so please could all members do a few patrols round the water to keep them off.
On a positive note we now have a grant for Healey Dell to improve the fencing, gate, and grill on the overflow to stop mink entering. We have also got some extra islands to reduce predation by cormorants as it is felt the one we have has been successful.
Not many people have been out fishing but if you look on the facebook page you will see a couple of lads that went out in the snow to catch carp, so even in the winter the fish still are still coming out. There is also a great video of one of our members catching a carp from Syke last summer.
We need as many people to help with the work on Healey Dell as possible, as there is a time limit on the grant to get the work done, I will keep you informed of the dates when we start the work.
