NEWSLETTER January 2014
A very Happy New Year to you all, from everyone at Waltons, and a very warm welcome to our new members also. We hope that all your fishing experiences will be good ones. There haven’t been many members out and about over recent weeks, however, from the reports I have had, I can say that both waters are producing some nice nets of fish. I ventured out to the Dell on the 2nd January. The weather forecast seemed pretty accurate as I arrived about 11.30am. Hardly any wind, sunshine with patchy cloud and a temperature of around 6 degrees. No one fishing, I had the pick of the pegs. I chose peg 7, adjacent to the overflow. About 30 minutes went by before I had my first bite and first fish, a roach of around 3oz. From then on, the bites followed and the fish came in, not thick and fast, but at a rate that kept me interested until around 3.30pm. A mix of skimmers to 1lb, roach to 4oz, the usual decent ide and a few small perch, had been brought to the bank. Two of my mates (yes, I do have two), called for a catch up, which helped to make it a very enjoyable session, especially at this time of year. I have just one report from Syke, one of our top matchmen fished peg 1, just before Christmas. He only fished the tip and although it started slow, he had an enjoyable session catching roach and small carp. Although it’s the middle of winter, if you pick your day, wrap up warm and take a flask, you can reap the rewards. You won’t catch anything sat on your sofa, and as we all know, you can’t beat a little session now and again, it’s good for the heart rate !!!.
