NEWSLETTER September 2013
As Autumn gently reminds us that those tee shirt days of summer are sadly behind us, it’s time to put on that extra layer and reflect on the fishing that Waltons’, has given us up to now.
Healey Dell, that peaceful, secluded, magical place that we can all use to escape from whatever, has not disappointed. Quality catches of mixed fish have been a plenty and although the tench have been a little shy this summer, those carp have given some members a surprise or two. Keep hold of your rods is the message to all at the Dell. The new anti-poaching fence put up at the far end, has begun to solve the mini ‘poaching’ problem.
Syke, has been outstanding and although I would like to give details of some of the brilliant catches that have been reported to me, I am reluctant to do so. Why ? ... sadly, I have to report that we have been the victims of our own success and giving details of catches would only advertise the quality fishing that can be had. Word has spread and as a result and despite the best efforts of our bailiffs, we have suffered one of our worst ever years for ‘poachers’. All is not doom and gloom though. The Police and the EA are now taking an interest in the problem and it is hoped that an action plan to combat the ‘poachers’ will be ready for next season where heavy fines and confiscation of tackle will help make Syke a water for …. Members Only.
A reminder re litter, please take it with you. The bin is empty at the Dell.
Our matches have fished well with some excellent weights, 25lb – 45lb required to win at the Dell and in the region of 50lb to win at Syke. The turnouts have been disappointing though, with an average of only eight through the draw. I fished one match, came last but thoroughly enjoyed it, wish I wasn’t so committed on Sundays. You can see the results of our matches and championship table on our website.
There were only 14 members, including committee, at the AGM in April. The newsletter prior to the AGM informed members of the proposals for the meeting. This gave every member the opportunity to attend and vote for or against the proposals, the outcome of which were, in brief.

2) To remove the maximum limit spent annually on our fish – carried.
3) To place a £5 stocking levy on all subscriptions excluding juniors, all money from the stocking levy, to be spent on fish. – carried. (the stocking levy will not effect Life Members or those paid up to the 5 year membership scheme, although voluntary donations by those members would be welcomed).
4) A proposal, to increase subscriptions was withdrawn.
