NEWSLETTER January 2013

I’ll start by saying, on behalf of the Committee and Officers, we hope you have had a very happy festive season and wish you and your families, a very happy, healthy and prosperous New year.

Last year saw some excellent pleasure and match catches on both our waters and we are confident that the coming year will be even better. A stocking of 3,000 small carp will be distributed between the Dell and Syke which will mean that competition for food will result in a another fantastic years sport. (250lb caught in one pleasure session at Syke). Carp and large tench were being caught during the mild spell earlier this month at the Dell .... tench and carp in January .... wow !!!. Due to the ropes being left on during the summer months, no cormorants or goosander were reported, however, they were seen again on Syke at the end of November. Because of this, and in order to prevent our stocks from devastation, more ropes had to be placed across. Syke is still fishable and the ‘extra’ ropes will be removed when it is deemed safe. The ropes at the Dell have been re positioned high above the water and it is hoped that this method this will make fishing easier for everyone. Please respect the ropes, they are there for a purpose ... to prevent serious loss of your fish, which you as members, pay almost £3000 a year for. Again, I must stress, ANYONE INTERFERING WITH ANY ROPES, WILL BE INSTANTLY EXPELLED.

The Syke Small Water Tench Fund, raised a grand total of £250, thanks to your welcomed generosity and the tench will be stocked accordingly. This year it will be replaced by a General Stocking Fund which will enable us to stock more fish when and where needed. We would like to thank you in advance for your continued support.

Our match secretary is hoping to see more faces through the turnstiles on match days. To encourage this, he has introduced two ‘open’ matches to the calendar and has made a slight increase to the ‘pools money’ (see enclosed calendar). Please remember that ‘pools’ are optional, you can fish a match without entering the pools. The excellent work carried out on the east bank pegs at Syke last year, will hopefully see more anglers down there, the fishing can be exceptional. Work on the west bank pegs will also be undertaken. The more members we have on the water will hopefully discourage ‘poachers’. The Committee will continue to make every improvement possible for the enjoyment of all members and to this end, we would like to see as many of you as possible at the subs meeting to hear your views, good or bad, about how the club is doing and how we can make things better. The beer is the best in town, well, I would say that being a Blackburn lad .... It’s Thwaites’ (please don’t buy me more than one pint each though).

Hope to see you at the Subs Meeting,

Jim (Secretary).
